Just a heads up that the game servers will be down this weekend for an extended period of time. I am doing an OS refresh on our dedicated machine and going from CentOS (Linux) to Windows Server 2016. This move will make things easier for me. I've talked to quite a few people who recommended this move saying that performance for CSGO servers was better on Windows as opposed to Linux.
This process is expected to begin on Saturday night around 12AM and should continue well into Sunday. I have backed up pretty much everything just in case!
If you have any questions or feedback, please let me know. I'll be updating this thread with progress!
I am reaching out to everyone in our community, past and present, to help gather ideas for making our servers more popular. These ideas can range from configuration changes to swapping out server types. Clearly, the key for us going forward is to become more active and popular. If more people are playing on the servers then we do not really have much to worry about. However, you need unique experiences to make your servers more attractive to new gamers. That's the key!
So, what would you like to see bG change or add to make the servers more enjoyable for you?
So I've made the decision to move our game servers from our current hosting provider to NFO. I would like to thank Psychz Network for the years of service, but I feel as though it has limited us to a degree.
Our current servers are located in Dallas and that does not seem to be a popular location for game servers in general. We will be moving to Chicago, like in the past. We used a Chicago data center early on during bG's best days and I'm hoping it will lead to more of that.
One thing to note, this process will probably take a little bit to complete and we may confuse some people when it's all said and done. However, our traffic has been minimal on all of the servers so I don't think it'll do much damage.
Woah, that was a lot. Sorry for the delay in getting this all live, but I'm glad it seems to be working as expected. I wanted to wait a few days and make sure no error messages popped up. So far, so good! So, you might be asking yourself...well, what's new? Quite a bit, so let me run down some of the changes so far:
Upgraded Forum to XenForo 2
The entire community forum has been upgraded to XF2 which is a major update. This required all of the plugins we have been using to either be re-written or replaced. Yes, this cost quite a bit of money and yes, it was absolutely worth it.
New Look and Feel
One of the things you'll notice off the bat is the new forum style. The colors and overall branding of Bor3d Gaming will always be the same, but XF2 already had many stylistic changes to it. We're using a new base theme and I've made a few customizations to it. I like it, but give me some feedback if you do not!
So one cool aspect of XF2 is that it now...
Just wanted to wish you all the best in 2018. Bor3d Gaming will keep going strong for the 2018 year, barring any financial mishaps, but I'm excited about what this will bring. I have a few big changes coming along, but hopefully, you will all see that in the very near future.
If you're still too hungover to play, play anyway.
I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who came out Saturday night to support our charity event on the Zombie Escape server. It was great talking to some old timers and playing some classic maps. I'm happy to announce that I was able to exceed my goal by raising $530 USD for the sick children of the Children's Miracle Network Hospital.
It's #gameday! Thanks to everyone that donated thus far and pushed me way past the fundraising goal for Extra-Life. If you're still interested in donating, don't hesitate to right here on the Bor3d Gaming website. I'll be donating that money directly to the Extra-Life organization at the end of the event.
Don't forget, we will be STREAMING our Zombie Escape event tonight starting at 10PM EST.
So at the recommendation of some of the Council members, we have set up a Discord server for you all to use.
